What do you want from life? A good career? Really?
Let’s be honest, career in 2024 has completely different meaning than 20 years ago. In the beginning of 20’s people were rising by choosing their careers for the rest of their lives. But in 21 century, technology is developing too fast, and every year some new professions are appearing in the job market. As one of my colleagues said, ‘There is no Data scientist with 15 years experience’. You can’t know what you will be doing in 5 years. Maybe you will find your passion in something that hasn’t appeared yet. So what should people do? Just learn what you like. Spend at least an hour everyday and one day in weekends to learn what you like and be consistent. Jonathan Ive said, that the greatest skill of Steve Jobs was to say ‘no’, even the idea seems great. When he started working on something, he finishes his project, only then considers other ideas. When you learn something everyday, you become flexible and less dependent on your employer. There are so many risks in giving it all for the sake of making great career, that you may find yourself in regrets after years of hard work. Try to find a job which doesn’t drain your energy from you and make some side hustle maybe. Independence is the asset which can’t be bought.
