We all know that reading is good for us. By the rise of social network more and more people propagate reading as it develops focus, gives knowledge, relieves stress etc etc. Well I can’t argue with that, but had you ever found yourself too detached from reality because of books? It’s not only when we read fiction, but also non-fictions as books on finance, time-management, personal development. Sometimes we can be so preoccupied with the idea of book, that we forget who we are and where we are living. I mean what the f**k?

We take philosophy of authors and apply them in our lives. I think that’s a very very bad thing to do. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of reading. I love reading more than anything else. But sometimes I lose control of my mind. I start looking to world from the prism of author and apply his philosophy. I love some authors and love the world they decribe in their books, but that’s not the real world. We can not make decisions based on someone’s perspective of the world. Even when we don’t know what to do, it’s better to trust your gut than someone else.

If you find yourself preoccupied with author’s prism of the world, stop reading, right there. Just put the book aside and meditate. Obsession with reading may become dangerous. So always remember, you are spending your time. May be you should spend it doing something else?
